Port Orford Life Boat Station Museum
From 1934 into the 1960s, U.S. Coast Guard surfmen lived here, ever alert for ships in distress. When a call came they risked their lives to save others. Four other historic buildings also remain at this 101.29-acre site. This is the only Forge River-type station left on the West Coast.

The Mary D. Hume was a steamer built at Gold Beach, Oregon, in 1881, by R. D. Hume, a pioneer and early businessman in that area. She was retired in 1977 to Gold Beach. The Hume is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Brookings, Oregon: Fujita Sword & Japanese Bombing Site
Discover a remarkable U.S. history on Oregon's southern coast. Nobuo Fujita was the sole enemy pilot to bomb the continental US, releasing incendiary bombs near Mount Emily to start forest fires in September 1942.
Today, you can walk the Bombsite Interpretive Trail (Trail #1118) through the woodland to the bombing site, Fujita's memorial redwood, and a better understanding of this unique event in history.
Drive County Road 808 and FS Road 1205, then Spur Road 260, to reach the path. The trailhead is past the crossroads. The path is rough and dirt, therefore four-wheel drive is recommended.
Walk where history happened and see a dispute become a symbol of friendship.
